How to Describe Food in Japanese

おいしい (oishii) means  “good,” “delicious” in Japanese. It’s a useful word to know because you can never go wrong saying, “おいしい!”

Although おいしい sums up everything, Japanese people also love talking about the food, which is why there are many words to describe the differences and subtleties.

In this video, we introduce the basics. Talking about the food is part of enjoying the food.
